This reminds me of the options market. Once an option skyrockets in popularity the upside algorithmically shrinks due to the increased volatility of the option. People purchasing TopShot NFT’s are doing so at the peak of their popularity, as literally everyone has been talking about the craze. Yes, it may peak again, but that would require a confluence of many factors probably reliant on another big ticket sale like Beeple’s.

Collectors hoping to make truly good money should be purchasing one of a kind NFTs from smaller artists they believe will soon become popular. One of a kind NFTs are inherently rare and have considerable upside if the artist hasn’t been “discovered” yet. Unlike TopShot, if a future collector or museum wants your NFT, you don’t have to compete with thousands of other prices on the open market.
