There’s this overarching assumption in the stock market that essential workers will continue showing up on the job, regardless of the obvious dangers of doing so. I wrote about the looming general strike over two weeks ago, and we are starting to see this unfold with the Smithfield pork factory shutdowns. We, the people, are watching closely to see how corporations react. I may only be speaking for myself, but I will not continue to support companies like Amazon who have fired Employees after they organized strikes. And as an upcoming graduate, I know for a fact I will not apply to jobs at companies that have treated their Employees as expendable during this crisis.
